New York: Korean electronics giant Samsung said Thursday that it would launch its iPad wannabe, the Tab, on all four major U.S. cellphone carriers, boosting the device's chances of success in the key U.S. market. So far Apple's iPad tablet computer has had the market virtually to itself since its launch in late April after which it sold 3 million units in 80 days. Samsung's Tab runs on Google's rival operating system Android, and is the first device that analysts say presents credible opposition to the iPad, which proved there was a market for the intuitive touch-screen interfaces that small tablet computers allow. Samsung did not announce pricing details for the device, which with an 18-centimetre screen will be 10 centimetres smaller than an iPad. London: Japanese technology company Fujitsu has developed a system that is capable of charging multiple portable electronic devices like mobile phones and laptop computers without the need for cable connections. The company unveiled a prototype system at an Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers conference at Osaka Prefecture University and it claimed that it was first of its kind in the world. It works on the transmission of electricity using magnetic fields between the charger and the electronic device. The technology allows wireless charging at distances of up to several metres. Scientists at Fujitsu Laboratories plan to commercially sell products having wireless charging system by 2012. "This technology paves the way to integrating compact wireless charging functions into mobile phones and enabling multiple portable devices to be charged simultaneously without any restrictions on their position with respect to the charger," the company w...

San Francisco: Personal devices like smartphones and televisions are going to sense our moods in near future and will be offering advice to the user, said Intel Corp's Chief technology officer Justin Rattner. Talking about context-aware computing at the annual Intel Develop Forum in San Francisco, Rattner demonstrate how ultra- smartphones can react to our moods and how personal devices will one day offer advice that goes way beyond local restaurants and new songs to download."Future devices will constantly learn about who you are, how you live, work and play", said Rattner. Microsoft Corp. unveiled the “beta” test version of Internet Explorer 9 on Wednesday, the first of a new generation of web browser programs that tap into the powerful processors on board newer computers to make websites load and run faster. IE9, which is free, also arrives with a more minimalist look and a few new tricks that start to blur the distinction between a website and a traditional desktop application. Twitter is turning its text-messaging website into a multimedia showcase by adding a new pane that will make it easier for its 160 million users to check out photos and video.The redesign unveiled on Tuesday may compel people to linger on Twitter’s website for longer periods and come back more frequently, making it a more attractive advertising vehicle. “We are still figuring out all the new possibilities,” Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said in an interview. The Intel Developer Forum saw some important announcements made by Intel. Prime among them were the opening of the software application store 'Intel AppUp' and unveiling of new Atom processor E600 System-on-a-Chip (SoC) series.The new processor series, called the Tunnel Creek, has been developed specifically for embedded applications such as in-vehicle infotainment systems for cars, smart grid devices and IP media phones. Doug Davis, Vice President and General Manager, Embedded and Communications Group, Intel said, "The SoC integrates additional capabilities onto the chip and features an open interconnect for added flexibility.
